Walter G. Burrie
July 2, 1923- March 6, 2006
Walter G. Burrie, 82, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Walter was born in Waukesha on July 2, 1923, the son of George and Rose (nee Preiss) Burrie.
Walter graduated from Waukesha High School in 1942. He served his country in the 8th Air Force as a sergeant stationed in England during World War II. He was a life member of the 452nd Bomb Group. He was a life member and past commander of the Soat-Vergenz VFW Post #721 and a life member of Waukesha County Chapter #5, Disabled American Veterans. Walter was employed as a commercial construction carpenter and he was a 50-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. He was on the Milwaukee Apprenticeship Council and the Milwaukee District Council for many years. He was the financial secretary of Local 344 of Pewaukee.
On Nov. 25, 1950, Walter married Evelyn Hopkins at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waukesha. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 25, 2005. Walter enjoyed the extra time with his family that his retirement provided. Walter was a lifelong and faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Bill and Jim (Mary Ann); and a daughter, Janet (Bob) Pruess. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, Pete (Melissa), Sarah (Beethoven) Carabacan, Scot, Dan, Tim and Paul Burrie and Jennifer and John Pruess; and two great-grandsons, Malachi and Matthias Burrie. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents; his brother, George Jr.; his sister, Rosemary; and his youngest son, David.
Visitation for Walter will be held from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Friday, March 10, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1052 Whiterock Ave., Waukesha. Burial will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Pewaukee.
