LeRoy F. Gennerman
LeRoy F. Gennerman, 90, a longtime resident of the Oconomowoc area, was born into eternal life Thursday, March 23, 2006.
He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Ashippun and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Toland, where he remained a member ever since. LeRoy was a graduate of Toland Grade School in 1929 and of Oconomowoc High School in 1933.
He owned and operated a farm in the town of Ashippun from 1939 to 1960 and later was an insurance agent from 1956 to 1976 with Mutual Service Insurance Co. He booked and clerked auctions for many years and became a real estate broker in 1958. As a general contractor, he helped build many of the homes in the Oconomowoc area, and was also president of Five O’s Development Corp., which was founded in 1965 and developed 13 subdivisions in that same area.
LeRoy served his community as the clerk of Toland School and was active in the consolidation of the schools: as clerk of the Hartford Common Schools for two terms; as town board member in Ashippun for several terms; as an Ashippun Bank board member for many years; later on the F&M Bank board; and as board member of the Dodge County Housing Authority for many years.
He also served on St. Olaf Church councils, the Lutherdale Bible Camp board and the board of Lutheran Homes of Oconomowoc, where he was building committee chairman for the Lake Terrace apartments and senior center.
Active in sports, he played baseball, basketball and football for OHS, baseball for the Ashippun Lakers and was a member of the Lac La Belle and Paganica golf clubs. He sponsored the Oconomowoc Five O’s baseball team for many years and was one of the founders and organizers of the Oconomowoc area Lutheran Church dartball league. LeRoy also spoke at many Land-O-Lakes and Rock River baseball league banquets and was toastmaster at numerous banquets.
He was the beloved father of Thomas (Maureen) Gennerman, John (Patricia) Gennerman and Carol (Paul) Fellin; proud grandfather of Ted, David, Erik, Julianne, Rebecca, Amanda, Justice and Heather and seven great-grandchildren; and special friend of Betty Bender of Oconomowoc.
Preceding him in death were his loving wife of 58 years, Jean (nee Hoffman) Gennerman, whom he married Sept. 30, 1939, and his parents, Albert and Amanda (nee Will) Gennerman.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 27, at Pagenkopf Funeral Home, 1165 E. Summit Ave., Oconomowoc. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church, Toland. A visitation will precede the service at the church at 10 a.m.
