Eleanore Ann ‘Ellie’ Tooley

Jan. 8, 1918 - March 24, 2006

Deceased relatives and friends were on hand to welcome Ellie, 88, when she returned home Friday, March 24, 2006.

Her mother, Julia (Halama), and father, John Dejno, were there to welcome her. And, although she had been separated from Tony, her husband of 59 years, for the past 18 months, he was the first one to welcome her. Also on hand were 11 of her brothers and sisters. Not in attendance was her sister, Veronica (Haug) of Winona, Minn.; brother, Lawrence of Independence; and younger brother, John of Oak Creek.

Although her children were almost daily visitors to her since her separation from her husband, none of them were able to attend. They are James (Donna) of Lodi, Patricia (David) Jacobs of Wheaton, Ill., Julie (Steve) Ward of St. Charles, Mo., Anthony "Tony" (Lisa) of Murrieta, Calif., Joanne of Madison and Robert, who lived with her in Pewaukee.

Also not in attendance were her 10 beloved grandchildren. Ellie enjoyed being a resident of Pewaukee for the past 56 years and plans on residing there in perpetuity.

Ellie touched many people’s lives. Raised on a family farm in Independence, she became a registered nurse and served as an army nurse in England and Europe during World War II. After marrying Tony in Belgium in 1945, she returned to Milwaukee and started to raise a family. During her professional life, she worked as a registered nurse at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, the County Home in Waukesha and Wood’s Veteran’s Hospital in Milwaukee, from which she retired.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of celebration Wednesday, March 29, at Queen of Apostle’s Catholic Church, N35-W23401 Capitol Drive, Pewaukee, and all living friends and relatives are invited to attend. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Pewaukee.

In lieu of gifts, donations could be made to Catholic Relief Services to help others in need.
