James F. ‘Jim’ Bruno

June 28, 1918 - May 13, 2006

James F. "Jim" Bruno of Waukesha died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Ruth Hospice at age 87. Jim was born in Waukesha on June 28, 1918, the son of James and Anna (nee Mileli) Bruno.

He proudly served as a major in the U.S. Air Force and was active in the Air Force Reserves. Jim enjoyed being a pilot, and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol after retirement. He authored an autobiography about his experiences in the Air Force called "Beyond Fighter Escort." He also was employed for many years as an insurance adjuster. Jim was a member of the Waukesha American Legion and was a past member of St. William Catholic Church.

Jim will be sadly missed by his wife, Merlyn Bickford-Bruno; his daughters, Diana Lynn Bruno of San Francisco and Mary Kay (John) Russom of St. Louis; grandchildren, Aurora, Pawnee and Tanya Bruno and Erin and Sean Russom; brother, August (Laverne) Bruno of West Allis; sister-in-law, Ruth Bruno of Waukesha; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene (Schilling) on Sept. 12, 1985; his infant son, Michael; and his parents.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, May 19, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Waukesha American Legion.
