Donald W. Stickles

Donald W. Stickles, 87, of Waukesha, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at River Hills West Health Care Center in Pewaukee. He was born Sept. 24, 1918, in Rock County to Herbert and Rose (nee Kramer) Stickles.

In 1941, he married the former Betty Beck. She preceded him in death in 1992. He then married Thelma Fry on Sept. 19, 1998, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Waukesha, and she survives him. Donald and his first wife owned and operated Stickles Grocery Store on North and Maria streets from 1947 until 1961. He then worked as a carpenter for the Waukesha County Park System from 1961 until his retirement in 1980. He served in the Marines during World War II, participating in the battle of Iwo Jima. His memberships include St. Mark’s Lutheran Church since 1997 and the Asbury Club at the First United Methodist Church in Waukesha. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 21 and was an avid gardener.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Thelma, of Waukesha; daughter, Bonnie Stickles of New Mexico; son, Lee Stickles of Waukesha; stepchildren, Nancy (Tom) Nachreiner of Mukwonago, Darlene (James) Wilson of Waukesha, Robert Fry of Kansas, Beverly (Bill) Burki of East Troy and Larry Fry (friend Kristin Buske) of Waukesha; one granddaughter, Tiffany Euitt of Nashville, Tenn.; many stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and one special niece, Beth Lawson of Waukesha. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Visitation continues from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Thursday, May 18, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha, with the Rev. James Wilch officiating. Graveside services will follow with full military honors at Prairie Home Cemetery.
