Earl Oestreich, 85, of Oconomowoc, died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc after a long illness. He was born April 17, 1921, in the town of Concord, the son of Bruno and Alma (nee Degner) Oestreich.
He attended grade school at Lincoln Elementary School in Concord. He was a graduate of Watertown Senior High School. On Sept. 7, 1947, he married Elvira Liesener in Ixonia; she preceded him in death June 11, 1980. On July 4, 1981, he married the former Florence (nee Sampson) Dorn; she preceded him in death July 10, 2005.
Earl farmed in the town of Concord all his life. He was a musician, playing in several local bands, including the Midnight Serenaders, the Melodiers, Push-and-Pull, the Herb Bredow Band, the Tom Voigt Combo, the Merlin Braasch Orchestra, the Watertown Municipal Band, the Variations, the Three Naturals, the Ken Rhodee Band, the Bob Strege Band, Will Eske’s Yankee Dutchmen, the Van Eske’s and Red Hot Dixie. He played Taps for many veterans’ funerals.
He was a member and past director of Local 469, American Federation of Musicians. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Watertown. He enjoyed fishing and traveling in northern Wisconsin, Canada and Alaska.
His parents and a son, John, further preceded him in death. Earl is survived by his son, Grant (Jean) of Lake Mills; two stepsons, Rick Dorn of Kenosha and Ron (Carol) Dorn of Brown Mills, N.J.; two stepdaughters, Diane (Greg) Schroeder of Merton and Judy (Steve) Manning of Hiawassee, Ga.; three grandchildren; and eleven stepgrandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Marion (Walker) Griebenow of Watertown and a special friend, Jane Haut of Waukesha.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, June 1, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1611 E. Main St., Watertown. The Rev. David K. Groth will be officiating. Interment will follow at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia.
