Ruth Marion Whitmore

Ruth Marion Whitmore, 91, of 211 S. Curtis St., Lake Geneva, formerly of Elkhorn and Green Bay, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at Geneva Lake Manor.

Born on July 5, 1915, in Spring Prairie, she was the daughter of Harold and Luella (nee Wolfe) Whitmore.

After graduating from East Troy High School in 1932, she went on to receive a bachelorís degree in teaching from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1936. Ruth taught elementary school for more than 45 years, teaching in Watertown, Schofield and Keil. The last 35 years of her teaching career were spent as a third-grade teacher at Nicolet School in Green Bay, where she retired in 1981. Her memberships included the local and state Retired Teachers Association, the New England Historic Genealogical Societies and formerly the First United Methodist Church of Green Bay.

She is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Harold and Luella Whitmore; her brothers, Harlan (Marian) Whitmore and Easton (June) Whitmore; and her sisters, Evelyn (John) Merry and Carol (Gus) Meister.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, with the Rev. Douglas Demlow officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery in the town of Spring Prairie.
