James Perry Craig

James Perry Craig of the town of Vernon died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006. He was 83. James was born on the family farm in the town of Vernon on June 21, 1923, the son of Orlin and Mabel (nee Hardacker) Craig. He was a 1941 graduate of Mukwonago High School.

On Oct. 16, 1943, he married Jean Justin at Caldwell United Methodist Church.

James was a lifelong farmer and established the Country View Campground on the farm in 1975. He was a member of the Laflin/St. James Lodge #247 F. & A.M., Mukwonago. James was also a former director of Farm Credit Services and a former board member of ASCS.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jean; his children, Karen (Bill) Haynes of Fort Worth, Texas, and Wayne, Donna Hoffman, Cindy (Dennis) Vick, Robert (Tammie) and Colleen (Dan) Jax, all of Mukwonago; his brother, Raymond (Marilyn) of Deerfield, Ill.; his grandchildren, Connie (Gordon) Jeffery, Bobbi (Bryan) Bauerle, Mary (Adam) Johnson, Michael Craig, Nikki and Heidi Hoffman, Jenny and Jared Vick, Pauline and Collin Craig and Kailey and Tori Jax; his stepgrandchildren, Kevin, Michelle and Austin Mentch; his great-grandchildren, Brandon Hornbeck, Ryan and Jadyn Jeffery, Kendall Bauerle and Amira and Adilyn Hoffman; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John and his wife Fannie; a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Craig; and a son-in-law, Ronald Hoffman.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until a 7 p.m. Masonic service conducted by the Laflin/St. James Lodge #247 F. & A.M. on Thursday, Oct. 12, at Schmidt & Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St. (Highway ES) Mukwonago. A second visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Caldwell United Methodist Church, 8504 Caldwell Road (Highway O, south of Highway L), Mukwonago. Interment will be at Caldwell Cemetery.
