James E. ‘Jim’ Turner

James E. "Jim" Turner of Hartland died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at his home at age 61, after a two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Jim was born Nov. 9, 1944, in Deming, N.M., the son of James Sr. and Dorothy (nee Welbourne) Turner.

After World War II, he lived in Muskego, moving to Waukesha in 1955. In 1962, Jim graduated from Ripon College with a bachelor of science double major in mathematics and physics. In 1968, he graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a master’s of science in mechanical engineering. That same year, he joined the Turner family business of Engineering Products Co., later becoming president following the death of his father. Jim was united in marriage to Jean McWhorter on June 21, 1969, and together they had three daughters. He served on the board of directors for the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra and was also a volunteer for the Hebron House of Hospitality, assisting with their computers. He was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, attaining Eagle Scout in 1959. He was a member of Theta Chi fraternity, the Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers. Jim also was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Oconomowoc.

Jim will be deeply missed by his wife, Jean of Hartland; his three daughters, Rebecca (Joe) Ullrich of Grayslake, Ill., Deborah (Reid) Wiersema of Grayslake and Rachel (Jay) Nichols of Lindenhurst, Ill.; grandchildren, Avery and Emily Ullrich, Natalie Wiersema and Max and Owen Nichols; one brother, Dr. Richard Turner of Seattle; and nephew, Dylan Turner of Seattle. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Linda Turner.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The Rev. Pete Peterson will officiate.
