John H. Foley

John H. Foley, 77, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at his Waukesha home. He was born June 22, 1929, in Herrin, Ill., to John Edward and Hazel K. (nee Stoves) Foley. In 1948, he graduated from Waukesha High School. He married the former Audrey Stark on April 10, 1948, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Waukesha. She preceded him in death April 13, 2004.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He enlisted June 24, 1946, and advanced through the ranks to senior petty officer (E8) and was then commissioned as ensign in April 1962. He was a lieutenant (O3) when he retired in 1972 after 26 years of service. While in the Navy, he was stationed on the USS Macon (CA132), USS Mississippi (EAG 128), USS Francis M. Robinson (EDE 220), USS Sierra, USS Conway (DD507), USS Saufley and the USS Sellers (DDG 11). Land stations were USNTC Great Lakes, Ill., Electronics Officers School USNTC Great Lakes, Ill., two tours in Vietnam VXN-8 and the Naval Communication. While a civilian, he was a commercial lobster fisherman in Key West, Fla., and was the supervisor of building and grounds at Florida Keys Community College. After moving to Wisconsin, John was employed at Alpine Valley Resort, retiring in 1996.

He will be sadly missed by his nephews, nieces other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Giovannucci.

In accordance with Mr. Foleys wishes, he will be cremated and his cremated remains will be buried at sea by the U.S. Navy with full military honors.
