Leo G. Mulholland

Leo G. Mulholland, 82, formerly of Big Bend, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix. The youngest of seven children, Leo was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Richland Center, to John Leo "Lee" and Bridget (nee Stull) Mulholland.

Leo was a veteran of World War II and a school administrator. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and his master’s degree in school administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He belonged to the DAV and WEA. He was married to Betty Lechnir on Feb. 3, 1951. They spent their retirement winters in Sun City, Ariz.

Leo is survived by his wife, Betty of Burlington; three sons, Mark (Patti) of Clinton Township, Mich., Shaun (Leigh Ann) of Nashotah and Rory (Sandy) of Muskego; three daughters, Debbie (Jim) Schmittfranz of Mondovi, Jan (Jerry) Gifford of Doylestown, Pa., and Teri (Ron) Rachwal of Burlington; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Mulholland and Avis Johnson of Richland Center; one brother-in-law, Richard (Mary Ellen) Lechnir of Sun City West, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Alois and Paul; three sisters, Marie (Frank) Phyfield, Tess (Conrad) Ostrander and Bernadette (Theron) Swenink; and one sister-in-law, Elma (Alois) Mulholland.

His family will miss his love and wonderful sense of humor.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 S. Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington with the Rev. Jeff Thielen officiating. A graveyard service will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
