Dennis D. Bender, 67, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after a long illness.

Dennis was born Jan. 23, 1940, in Beaver Dam, and graduated from the Beaver Dam High School.

He married Nina M. Bennett on June 17, 1967, in Beaver Dam. He lived in Beaver Dam most of his life and the family moved to Sioux City in 1998. Dennis was a salesman for the D.E. Riley Corp. and Red Star Yeast Co. He retired in 1999.

Dennis was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and bingo. He liked to travel, spend time in Texas during the winter months, and he loved his family and taking time to have get togethers with them.

From 1962 to 1965, he served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Nina M. of Sioux City; his son, David M. Bender of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Beverly and Wayne Drake of Beaver Dam; two sisters-in-law, Ruth (Harold) Boden of Bronson, Iowa, and Sandra Bennett of Seattle; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Florine, his grandparents and his aunts and uncles.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., Sioux City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jon Gaul will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites being conducted by the U.S. Army.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Boden, Bob Malcom, Terry Jolin, Mike Newburn, Gary Dickman and Dick Sackett.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to hospice of Siouxland and the nursing staff of St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center for all their help.
