PORTLAND, Ore.

Helen M. Cannon

April 10, 1918 - April 15, 2007

The family of Helen M. Cannon wants the Waukesha community to know that she died peacefully in Portland, Ore., on Sunday, April 15, 2007, five days after her 89th birthday, with her daughter by her side.

Helen was born in 1918 in Cambria to Hazel and Everett Jones. She graduated from Waukesha High School in 1936 and remained a devoted friend to her classmates throughout her life. Helen completed her nurseís training at Milwaukee General Hospital and went on to complete a bachelorís of science degree at Carroll College in 1966.

In 1942, Helen married Capt. Robert Cannon, U.S. Army, who was killed in 1945 during World War II. Despite this tragedy in her early life, she never lost her fun-loving spirit. According to her daughter, Nancy, we will always remember the twinkle in her eye, her kidding nature and her contagious laughter. Her world was full of fun things and she wanted to see them all.

Her career in public services spanned three decades. Helen was a public health nurse for Waukesha and Waukesha County and a school nurse at the Elmbrook Junior High. She lived in Waukesha until 1997, when she moved to Portland to live near her daughter and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Bridgeford; son-in-law, Rick Stiggins of Lake Oswego, Ore.; and granddaughter, Kristen Bridgeford of Edmunds, Wash.

Memorial services are planned for Waukesha, but arrangements are pending. Remembrances may be sent to The Caring Place Inc., 810 N. East Ave., Waukesha.
