Alfred G. Williams

Alfred G. Williams, a lifelong resident of Waukesha, passed away Sunday, April 15. Al was born Feb. 19, 1927, to Lewis A. and Lillian M. (nee Treadway) Williams.
Al was a 1945 graduate of Waukesha High School and served in the Navy during World War II. Upon his return from overseas duty, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellen (nee Neufer), also a native of Waukesha.
Al received a degree from the Milwaukee School of Business in 1948 and pursued a career in sales. He was employed by Spanjer Brothers Inc. of Chicago until his retirement in 1989.
An avid sports enthusiast throughout his life, Al was a varsity member of the Waukesha High School football team and earned distinction in field and track. He was also a scratch golfer for many years and excelled in tournament competition. Music was of special interest to Al. In his youth, he performed as a drummer with the Modernettes, a talented group of musicians whose repertoire included music from the swing and big band era. In his later years, Al spent his leisure time raising homing pigeons and was an award-winning member of the Woodside Flying Club.
Al is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, now of Oconomowoc; sons, Alfred G. Williams II (Janet) of Richmond, Va., Charles M. Williams (Roxanne) of Saugus, Calif., and Paul A. Williams (Eve) of Pewaukee; daughter, Sue Ellen Williams (Jim) of Oconomowoc; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Lewis E. (Betty) Williams of Waukesha and Arthur J. Williams; and sister, Martha J. Roland of Black Earth. Al is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the caregivers at Linden Heights and to the VITAS Hospice caregivers whose gentle care and goodwill brought Al so much comfort.
A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service Tuesday, April 24, at Cesarz, Charapata and Zinnecker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alís name to a charity of the donorís choice.
