Doris E. Davies

Doris E. Davies, a lifelong Waukesha resident, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, at age 96. She was born Aug. 16, 1910, on her Waukesha area family farm, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (nee Howell) Williams.
After graduating from Carroll College, Doris was united in marriage to Dr. Gwilym Davies on Aug. 29, 1931; he preceded her in death in 1982. Along with her husband, she was a medical missionary in Cameroon, West Africa, for several years before returning to the Waukesha area. As an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Waukesha, Doris was an elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher. She also volunteered her time recording books for the blind. Doris was a member of the P.E.O. Practical Club, and enjoyed playing with many bridge clubs and spending time with her family.
Doris will be sadly missed by her five daughters, Dr. Edythe (Richard) Conway of Lansing, N.Y., Genevieve Pontow Hall of Amelia Island, Fla., Evelyn (Bruce) Otto of East Troy, Joey Evans of Waukesha and Dottie (Jim) Watson of Mukwonago; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Donald (Eleanor) Williams and Joseph (Marion) Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Avalon Square Chapel, 222 Park Place, Waukesha. The Rev. Don Clarke will officiate. Visitation and refreshments will immediately follow the service. Private burial was at Prairie Home Cemetery.
