Karen Jane Touton

Karen Jane Touton, 49, died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Countryside Home in Jefferson after a brave 13-year battle with a brain tumor. Karen was born Oct. 6, 1957, in Fort Atkinson, the daughter of David Forrest and Mary Alice (nee Zwiebel) Touton.

She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1975 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelors degree in linguistics and a masters degree in English.

Karen spent 3 1/2 years teaching English in Japan. Later, she became a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines. Living in the Milwaukee area, Karen enjoyed employment as an international cross-cultural consultant, a teacher of Japanese and English for private companies, colleges and individual students.

Karens interests included traveling, participating in and watching sports, anything to do with Japanese culture and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her parents; two sisters, Cindy (Steve) Klevickis of Elkton, Va., and Barb (Brent) Drews of Cross Plains; a brother, Dan of Lake Mills; a niece, Maggie Drews of Eugene, Ore.; two nephews, Matthew and Michael Drews of Cross Plains; and many dear friends and relatives.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday, Aug. 24, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, with the Rev. William Nolan officiating. A luncheon will follow the funeral service. A private burial will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery.
