TOWN OF DELAFIELD
Orin Mayer of the town of Delafield died after a brief illness Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 68.
Orin grew up and attended schools in Milwaukee, moving to Brookfield in January 1948, where he attended Leland School. He was in the first class to attended the new Brookfield High School, where he graduated in 1958. He joined the U.S. Army in the summer of 1958, serving for one year and then with the Army Reserve.
Orin was a fork lift mechanic, a career that spanned 47 years, while working for a couple of different companies. He married Jean Hilbelink on Sept. 12, 1964, and she preceded him in death Feb. 26, 1986. He later married Barbara (nee Montgomery) Palm on April 16, 1988, in Hartland.
Orin enjoyed farming, buying equipment, restoring old tractors and going to auctions. He owned and operated "Orinís Pumpkins" for the past 12 years, a longtime dream.
Orin loved his family and his church. He served on three building committees and was a member of Church of the Resurrection, where he served on the property and building committees and was also a greeter and usher.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Mayer; brother, Roger (Kathie) Mayer; son, Ron (Tina) Mayer; daughter, Nancy (Shawn) Doherty; stepdaughters, Debbie (Karl) Zeirke, Lisa (Chris) Zweifel and Lynda (Geno) Neyhart; stepson, Dan Palm; 12 grandchildren, Caroline and Bodie Mayer, T.J., Aubrey, Elysa and Isabelle Doherty, Sarah (Ben) Hein, John (Jess) Zeirke, Tim Zeirke, Logan Zweifel and Connor and Ryan Neyhart; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Zachary Hein.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Gertrude (nee Walk) Mayer.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service today, Dec. 1, at the Church of the Resurrection, W287-N3700 North Shore Drive, Pewaukee, with the Rev. James Stein officiating. A private family interment will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
