Robert ‘Bob’ Edward Kohl
Jan. 12, 1937 - Jan. 31, 2007
After battling cancer for the past year, New Berlin resident Robert "Bob" Edward Kohl passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at age 70.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Shirley (nee Ensrud), and three children, Robert (Jane) of Pewaukee, Patti (Ken) Quartullo of New Berlin and Daniel (Laura) of East Troy. He was the proud grandfather of Tyler and Austin Quartullo and Rachel and "peanut to be" Kohl. He is further survived as the brother-in-law of Bonnie, Betty and Nancy. He is also loved by other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbara and Olaf Ensrud, and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Delores (Richard) Pluta, Alex Schmidt and Edward (Dorothy) Schmidt.
Bob grew up on a small 5 acre mini-farm in Brookfield (Brookfield Road, north of Capitol Drive) with his parents, the late Anne and Alfred Kohl, and his two brothers, Richard "Dick" and the late Ronald.
He attended Boys Tech until his junior year in high school. Bob quit school to take a job in the elevator industry in which he installed and serviced elevators. He worked in the industry for 40 years, retiring in 1995, and was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 15.
Bob and Shirley were wed in 1957 and lived in Wauwatosa, moving to New Berlin (southwest side) in 1968. They later built a second home in northern Wisconsin (near Crandon) on 40 wooded acres. They harvested some of the trees themselves for later use in the cabin.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. But his true love was working on projects around their two homes. Although not formerly educated, Bob was a master of all trades and could repair almost anything.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 W. National Ave., New Berlin. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 16000 W. National Ave., New Berlin. A private burial will be held at Holy Apostles Cemetery at a later date.
