Gladys Clara (Wirth) Birschbach

Gladys Clara (Wirth) Birschbach was born to Theresa G. (Simon) and Joseph C. Wirth Sr. in Marytown on March 5. 1923. She died peacefully after a long and courageous life.

She lived at Marian Catholic Nursing Home, later renamed to Havenswood Health Center in Milwaukee (1980 to 2005). In August 2005, she moved to Waukesha Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha.

Gladys married Richard Birschbach (deceased Nov 29, 1998) at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee on Nov. 11, 1944. They later divorced after 30 years of marriage in 1974. Gladys was the beloved mother of Daniel David "Danny" Birschbach of Milwaukee and Adele (Norman) Vogel of Brookfield. She is survived by her beloved sister, Dolores Bertha (Wirth) Rolfson, of Waukesha. Our mom also shared a special love for her many "fur grand kids."

Gladys was predeceased Aug. 9, 1981, by her brother and sister-in-law Joseph Claude Wirth Jr. and Beatrice Joy (Bennett) and by her brother-in-law, Charles James Rolfson, and a much beloved niece, Rosemary Ann on March 11, 1970. She also is predeceased by her parents, Theresa (May 21, 1964) and Joseph (Jan. 16, 1977) and a sister, LaVerne, who died in early childhood. She also was predeceased on July 31, 1983, by Gertrude B. Fons.

Gladys has many Birschbach family nieces and nephews residing in the "Holy Land" area of Wisconsin (near Fond du Lac). She is predeceased by all her sisters and brothers-in-law of the Birschbach family, except Gladys M. Birschbach of Fond du Lac and Sally Birschbach.

She is survived by a loving group of Waukesha area nieces and nephews along with their families: Rita Lynn (Rolfson) and Jim Harasha; their children, Tina and Drew; Rhonda Marie (Rolfson) and Dan Stair; and their children, Amy Gerassimoff and Jessie.

She also is survived by loving nieces and nephews, Jay (Joseph C.) Wirth and Michelle; their children, Joe, Jordan, Samantha and Maggie; Becky (Rebecca Joy) (Wirth) Thomas and her children, Noelle, Brittany and Andre; Terri (Theresa Ann) (Wirth) Petzold of Oregon and her children, Pam, Nikki, Alex and Eric; Bob (Robert Kevin) Wirth of Montana, and his son, Joshua; Leslie Ann (Wirth) and Joe Kemp of Reisterstown, Md., and their son, Joey; and Edie (Edith Ellen) (Wirth) and David Sleik and their children, Dustin and Amanda.

Gladys also is survived by her dear extended family members, Kim Joan (Vogel) and Perry Lichon of Appleton and their children, Alex and Robin; Kelly June (Vogel) and Glenn Walters, also of Appleton, and their boys, Justin, Tyler and Grant; Kevin Jon Vogel of California; and Jeremy and Nicole Vogel and their daughter, Ashley Marie of St George, Utah.

Our mom led a long life. She loved everyone and everything: animals, children, family music, TV, and bingo. She had more than her share of trials and tribulations, and yet she never once complained about the hand she was dealt in life. How many of us can say the same? Do something today that will make the world a better place "HUG a friend, family member or pet."

Her family wishes to express our most sincere thanks and appreciation to ALL the LTC employees, caregivers (especially the many CNAs and nurses who so lovingly gave of themselves above and way beyond their job), the many volunteers who became her friends and who have enriched our momís life at Marian Catholic Home, Havenwood, NH, and of course, Waukesha Springs Health and Rehab. The family also wishes to thank Odyssey Hospice staff for their wonderful, caring and thoughtful assistance.

Cremation services were held.
