Katherine ‘Katie’ Brandt Spain

Katherine "Katie" Brandt Spain of Fountain Hills, Ariz., born April 9, 1928, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at age 78 due to complications from pneumonia and emphysema. Katherine was born in Fennimore and graduated from Platteville Teachers’ College. She received her master’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Katherine taught at Butler Middle School, seventh-grade math, from 1966 until her retirement in 1990. She had previously taught in California, Venezuela, South America, and Lancaster before coming to Waukesha. She lived in Punta Gorda, Fla., for much of her retirement until moving to Fountain Hills in 2004 after Hurricane Charley destroyed most of her home in Florida.

Katherine is survived by her daughters, Lisa A. Spain (Elaine Parton) of Milwaukee and Candyce (Michael) Kelly of Fountain Hills; her son, William Robert (Lisa G.) Spain III; grandson, Bobby IV of North Prairie; stepdaughter, Sandra Spain of Rocky Point, Mexico; grandsons, Richard (Heather) Kline of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., Daniel (Trisha) Pegueros of Scottsdale, Ariz., and David (Marie) Pegueros of Fort Collins, Colo.; one remaining sister, Arlene McHatton of El Paso, Texas; and two brothers, Robert (Bette) Brandt of Dayton, Ohio, and William (Joyce) Brandt of Fennimore.

Katherine’s ashes will be interned at the Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster on Mother’s Day, May 13, 2007, in celebration of her life with family.

Memorials may be given to The American Lung Association, American Heart Association or World Wildlife Federation.
