Cora Ann Zamber

Nov. 7, 1907 - Jan. 16, 2007

Cora Ann (nee Ruprecht) Zamber of Waukesha, formerly of Rice Lake, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, after a short illness. She was 99.

She was born Nov. 7, 1907, on a farm in Barron, the daughter of Charles and Martha (nee Wiggert) Ruprecht.

She lived in Rice Lake through her school years and then moved with her family to Milwaukee, where she met and married Lawrence M. Zamber. In 1946, after World War II, they moved to Island Lake, where they operated a dairy farm, resort and mink ranch, until they returned to southeastern Wisconsin in 1954. They retired to Rice Lake in 1982 until Cora reached age 97 and moved to her daughter’s home in Waukesha.

She enjoyed visits from friends and relatives and the lunches she served for them. An outdoor person, she kept a vegetable and flower garden until 2003. She enjoyed playing the keyboard and reading books, and was great at crossword puzzles. Many people enjoyed listening to her memories of life in the early 1900s.

Mrs. Zamber will be greatly missed by her children, Delaine Nelson of New Berlin, Gerald (Lorraine) Zamber of Hayward, Janice Pruitt of Waukesha and Dennis (Deborah) Zamber of Vero Beach, Fla. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Zamber, in 1986; her son, James Zamber, in 1999; as well as two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the noon funeral service Monday, Jan. 22, at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals Inc., Rice Lake, with the Rev. Ben Drown officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Island Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gerald and Dennis Zamber, Greg Pruitt, Duane Ruprecht and Richard and Charles Nelson.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals, (715) 234-6400, is serving the family.
