Allen Thomas ‘Rip’ Van Buren

Allen Thomas "Rip" Van Buren of Waukesha died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 88. Rip was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Indianapolis, the son of Peter and Emma (nee Thomas) Van Buren.

Rip enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He is in the Land o’ Lakes Baseball Hall of Fame and was a member of the Wisconsin Baseball Association in Milwaukee. Rip also managed Little League in Waukesha. He was an accomplished guitar and banjo musician. Rip was employed at Waukesha Engine for 45 years and was a member of the Waukesha Engine Old Timers. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Rip will be sadly missed by his wife, Evelyn, whom he married Sept. 13, 1940; his sons, Terry (Joyce) of the town Genesee and Michael (Patricia) of Wales; grandchildren, Todd, Tracey, Brian (Dawn), Jennifer and Maggie; and great-grandchildren, Marcus, Aarron, Sean, Natalie and Abby. Rip was preceded in death by parents and his brothers, Willard and Harold.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service today, Jan. 27, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The Rev. Ralph Schultz will officiate. Burial will take place at Hartland Village Cemetery.
