Melvin F. Turkoske

April 12, 1922 - July 26, 2007

Melvin F. Turkoske, a lifelong resident of Waukesha, passed on to eternal life Thursday, July 26, 2007, at age 85. Melvin was born in Waukesha on April 12, 1922, the son of Harold and Hilda (nee Tans) Turkoske.

Melvin was united in marriage to June Kerr on June 8, 1946. He was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was employed at Waukesha Engine for 43 years and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He was also a member of the Local 1377 of the International Association of Machinists and was active in the Waukesha Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 721. He also served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for three years during World War II. Melvin was an avid Packers and Brewers fan, and in 1940, he tried out as a pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers playing at Borchardt Field.

Melvin will be sadly missed by his wife, June of Waukesha; daughter, Connie (David) Stearns of Waukesha; sons, Kent (Julie) Turkoske of Waukesha and Robert Turkoske of Waukesha; grandchildren, Amy (Jonathan) Oaks, Scott, Craig and Sara Stearns, Daniel and Emily Turkoske and Melissa Turkoske; great-grandchildren, Connor and Jordan Oaks; and brother-in-law, Robert Clem of Waukesha. Melvin is also survived by other relatives and many friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pearl Clem.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, July 31, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1052 Whiterock Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Glen Schaumberg will be officiating. Entombment will immediately follow the service at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Melvin’s name may be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (see address above) or to the Arthritis Foundation, 8556 W. National Ave., West Allis, WI 53227.
