Marta Udris

Jan. 31, 1925 - June 6, 2007

A longtime resident of Waukesha, Marta went to the arms of God on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at AngelsGrace Hospice at age 82. She was born the daughter of Karlis and Maria (nee Peltzel) Kils on Jan. 31, 1925.

Marta escaped from Latvia with her mother at age 16 in 1941, traveling together throughout Europe during the war. They departed from Copenhagen and arrived in Skipton, England, where she met her husband, Janis "John." In 1950, they were married at Skipton Castle Church and immigrated to the United States. In 1953, they settled in Waukesha, where she raised her family and resided until her death. She worked for Golden Guernsey Dairy, Hawthorn-Mellody Dairy and Hopson Oil. Marta was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the "prayer chain." She was also a member of the Latvian Senior Citizens Group. She had a green thumb, loved working outdoors and had a passion for planting flowers. Marta loved to entertain and was a wonderful hostess and cook. Marta was a wonderful, loving, very caring mother.

Marta will be deeply missed by her daughters, the Rev. Ingrid (Larry) Udris Huebner and Helga Udris, both of Waukesha. She is further survived by other relatives and many friends. Marta was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1994; her parents; her sister, Herta Vilumsons; and Helga’s fiancˇ, Daniel Smolen. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Paul Le Marbre and his nursing staff at the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Cancer Center.

The funeral service for Marta will be held Monday, June 11, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha, the Rev. Gary Liedtke officiating. The visitation will be held Sunday, June 10, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. A second visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will immediately follow the church service on Monday, going in procession to Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.
