Donald ‘Don’ P. Surges

Donald "Don" P. Surges of Lake Tomahawk, formerly of Waukesha, 73, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Seasons of Life Hospice in Woodruff after a long and courageous battle with mesophelioma cancer. Don was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Milwaukee, the son of Peter and Geraldine (nee Beck) Surges.

Don married Dolores Beiley on July 8, 1961. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #494 for 50 years and was a 31-year member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 400. Don was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed wood carving, raising tropical fish and was always looking for a good antique. After his retirement, he and Dolores moved to Lake Tomahawk to the peace and beauty of the North Woods.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Peter.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dolores; brother, David (Karen) Surges of Watertown; his sister, Jane (the late Terry) Eckmann of Waukesha; nephews, Daniel (Kathy) Surges, Todd (Tanya) Surges, Marc Eckmann, Terry Eckmann and Jonathan Eckmann; nieces, Gail (James) Nehl and Dee (Greg) Szablewski; and other relatives and friends. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday, March 9, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1025 Margaret St., Woodruff, with the Rev. Edward F. Powell officiating. A second visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, followed by an Elks Lodge of Sorrow service. Interment will take place at St. Augustine Cemetery.
