Doris Pynn Brennecke

Doris Pynn Brennecke, 86, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at the Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility in La Crosse, where she resided.

The daughter of Arthur William and Alice Ellen (nee Jones) Brennecke, she was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Dallas.

She grew up in Los Angeles and spent her high school years in Waukesha. In 1958, she received her teaching degree from La Crosse State Teacherís College. She later taught at the two-room elementary school on Briceís Prairie (Oak Grove School) for four years.

Doris moved to Oregon in 1962, where she taught at Cottage Grove and Reedsburg schools. She returned to La Crosse in 1969 and taught at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute as an adult basic education instructor, where she was involved in the first teaching of Hmong immigrants in La Crosse.

Doris is remembered by family and friends as always having a marvelous sense of humor, humble and looking for the good in others. She was quick to appreciate kindness and let others know she was thankful. She will be missed by all who got to know her.

She is survived by three children from her first marriage to Frank J. Italiano, Paul Italiano of Columbus, Ohio, Victoria (Ron) Crum Reed of Glendale, Ariz., and George (Linda) Italiano of La Crosse; and the sole child from her second marriage to Norris Pynn, Judith Pynn of San Francisco. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a niece, Jacqueline (Jim) Roberts of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary (Jack) Kells, formerly of Milwaukee.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility-Chapel, 2575 S. Seventh St., La Crosse, with the Rev. James Saunders officiating. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Internment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, in Arlington Cemetery Chapel Garden, Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials be made to the La Crosse City Youth Symphony, Frank Italiano Endowment, or the Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility.
