Thomas ‘Tom’ J. Matters
March 27, 1939 - May 3, 2007
Thomas "Tom" J. Matters, 68, of Eagle, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 3, 2007, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Tom was born March 27, 1939, in Waukesha, the son of Jack and Frances Matters.
Tom was retired from Cooper Power Systems (North Street), and following his retirement, he assisted at Mealy’s Funeral Home in Eagle and Palmyra for several years. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #535. Tom was a former member of the Eagle Volunteer Fire Department and the Eagle Lions Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Karen (nee Mealy) of Eagle, whom he married June 6, 1970, at St. Theresa Catholic Church; children, Kathryn (John) Bender of Waterford and Timothy (Sarah) Matters of Eagle; brother, Jon (Shirley) Matters of Orfordville; and grandchildren, Rebecca, Nicole and Carson. Tom is further survived by nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and his many friends at Blackhawk Campground in Milton.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Mealy’s Funeral Home, 103 Eagle St., Eagle. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Eagle, with the Rev. Dennis Ackeret officiating. Burial will follow at St. Theresa Cemetery.
