Donald R. "Don" Preusse, CLU, 86, of Whitewater, died Friday, May 11. He was born at home Oct. 30, 1920, in Buffalo Lake, Minn., to John and Elizabeth Preusse.
Don was employed by National Guardian Life Ins. Co. and Badger Mutual as an agent for more than 50 years.
He served in World War II with the 2nd Army Air Force. He was active in the American Legion and was past Commander of Post 304 in Palmyra. He also was a member of Voiture 7/50, 40 & 8 in Jefferson County.
He received his CLU designation in 1980 from The American College. He was president of Waukesha Assoc. of Life Underwriters and was honored as their Man of the Year in 1979-80. He also was president of the National Guardian Life Council.
Don loved to golf and was a member of Eagle Springs Golf Resort. He played on the Thursday night league for many years. Don was municipal judge for Palmyra for more than 33 years. He ushered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Palmyra for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; eight children, Patti Swanson-Meineke, Dianne (Jeffrey) Latterell, Paul (Jackie) Preusse, Tom (Sara) Preusse, Mary Beth (Jack) Kimbrell, Anne Peterson, D’Ette (Tom) Larson and Lisa (Kendall) Swafford. He has three stepchildren: Jim (Barbara) Newstrom, Judy (John) Brown and Nancy (Tim) Holm; 34 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Russell, and granddaughter, Kari.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at St. Mary’s Church, Palmyra. The Rev. Anthony Aakula will officiate with burial at St. Mary’s cemetery with military honors. A gathering in the church hall will follow.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, at Mealy Funeral Home, 320 West Main St., Palmyra.
Memorials may be made to Rainbow Hospice, The National Parkinson Foundation or St. Mary’s Church.
