Mary A. Tompkins of Waukesha died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at LindenGrove Health and Rehabilitation Center at age 97. Mary was born in West Allis on Nov. 20, 1910, the daughter of Frank and Theresa Merschdorf.

Mary was a member of St. William Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers, Wisdom Group and the Waukesha Homemakers Club-Westowne. She made the world’s greatest pies and cookies and enjoyed crocheting, making afghans for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary will be sadly missed by her daughters, Shirley Maile of Waukesha and Ruth Lukomski of Milwaukee; her daughter-in-law, Shirley Tompkins of Waukesha; her grandchildren, Sherry (Kevin) Gierach, Kathleen (Tim) Price, Mark (Anna) Maile, Michael (Colleen) Maile, William (Tammy) Lukomski, Mary (Joel) Wabiszewski, Robert Lukomski, Jenny Lukomski, Beverly (Gerald) Schienebeck, Michelle (Greg) Malsack and John Tompkins; her great-grandchildren, Bill, Becca and Bethany Price, Zach, Bree and Steffane Maile, Courtney and Zach Densmore, Alison Gierach, Mariann Maile, Kaitlin, Jocelyn, Alex and Tessa Wabiszewski, Dustin, Nick and Erica Carpenter, Bradley, Casi and Amanda Schienebeck and Andrew, Jordan and Brittany Malsack; her great-great-grandchildren, Ashley Phillips, Kaylee Maile and Victoria Cox; and her sisters, Elizabeth Walker and Theresa Wachholz. Mary is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard "Tommy;" her son, Dale Tompkins; sons-in-law, Anthony Lukomski and Edward Maile; brother, George Merschdorf; and sisters, Agnes Haydin, Eva Bauer and Anne Putzi.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral Mass on Friday, Nov. 30, at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The Rev. Jason Lavann will be officiating. There will be a Christian Mothers prayer vigil service prior to Mass. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
