Izzy was raised in Lohrville. He had worked on a farm near Oshkosh for a time. He worked at the Halquist Stone Quarry in Sussex for 43 years, where he was a "Jack of all trades." He was foreman of the Crushing Plant at the time of his retirement in April 1978.
Mr. Piechowski had been a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Redgranite and was presently a member of St. James Catholic Church in Lannon (Menomonee Falls). He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 139 of Pewaukee. Following his retirement, he loved cutting wood and enjoyed fishing on Pearl Lake. Recently, he enjoyed gardening and cutting the lawn on his riding lawn mower.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Russell) Dunn of Redgranite and Mary Wojciga of Ripon; two grandsons, Aaron Wojciga (Jayna Samp) of Sussex and Christopher Banks (Stacy Beegaye) of Mesa, Ariz.; his dear friends and neighbors, Kenny, Sharon, Jayna and Trina Samp of Sussex; and two sisters-in-law, Lucy Witkowski of Rosendale and Genny Trochinski of Berlin. Also surviving are two special nieces, Barbara Jasinski of Waukesha and Patricia Disterhaft of Rosendale; other nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends; and his faithful canine companion, Prince.
Izzy was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents; his brothers, Florian (his twin), Clifford, Edmund and Anton; a stepbrother, Steve McCall; his sisters, Clarabelle and Margaret; and a stepsister, Eleanore.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the noon funeral service Saturday, Oct. 6, at the First Congregational Church of Christ in Redgranite, where the Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Mattern. The church is located on the east side of Redgranite, south of Highway 21, across from the Citgo Station. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Berlin.
Izzy’s funeral is being held at the Congregational Church due to a scheduling conflict at St. Mark’s. Izzy’s family thanks Pastor Dorothy and the members of the Congregational Church for graciously allowing the use of their fine facilities.
A memorial has been established.
