Robert W. Phillips

Robert W. Phillips, 64, of Athlestane and Pewaukee, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007 on the scene of a fire in Athlestane.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1943 to Harry and Margaret (nee Bruss) Phillips. Robert was a graduate of Oconomowoc High School and joined the U.S. Navy from 1961 until 1962.

In Sept. 2006, he retired from Dueco-Dalum Utility Equipment Company Inc. in Waukesha after many years of service. He also sold fire trucks for Johnson Fire Equipment and Marion Body Works, and sold fire gear and equipment for Flemings Fire 1 Inc. in Stone Bank. Robert had a great passion for working in small town volunteer fire departments. He was a 23-year member of the City of Delafield Volunteer Fire Department working from 1966 until 1989, where he held positions of lieutenant, captain and assistant chief. After retiring, he spent most of his time in Athelstane, where he was a member of its volunteer fire department for the past three years. Robert also did fire inspections for Jerry Wendt of Oconomowoc.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Kathleen (nee Lane) Phillips of Pewaukee, his daughter Kim Schmid of Mukwonago, and his grandchildren Hannah R. and Skyler R. Schmid, both of Mukwonago. He is further survived by his brother Roger (Laurie) Phillips of the town of Delafield, his sister-in-law Sharon Lane, as well as other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother-in-law, James Lane.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Services continue on Thursday, Nov. 1 with visitation at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service. Burial will be at the City of Delafield Cemetery. Memorials are appreciated to the Athlestane Volunteer Fire Department.
