James L. Steimel

Attorney James L. Steimel, 74, of Waukesha, was born to eternal life at home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, March 28, 2008.

He is the loving husband of 48 years to Patti (nee Coykendall); dearest father of five children, James A. (Darlene), Michelle (Dennis) Helm, Susan (Mark) Hoffman, Elizabeth (Paul) Nuccio and Kay (Phil) Ziegler; and beloved grandpa of Melissa, TJ, Bryan, Brittany, Caryn, Kyle, Megan, Evan, Samantha, Taylor and Phillip. He is also survived by eight stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson, Zachary; his brother, Earl (Miriam) Steimel; two sisters, Betty Stiles and Donna Dellergardelle; brother and sister-in-law John and Pat Blashinsky; and cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Sylvia Steimel; two brothers, Robert and Dennis; and sisters-in-law, Betty Lawhun and Thelma Caldwell.

Attorney James L. Steimel oversaw a general practice in the city of Waukesha for more than 40 years. In recent years, he was an attorney at Schober, Schober and Mitchell S.C. Jim was born in Waterloo, Iowa, and attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1957. He received his law degree from Marquette University in 1960. While at Marquette, he was elected to the Jesuit honor fraternity Alpha Sigma Nu. He was a member of the National Moot Court competition team and Law Review. Also, Jim was a member of the Waukesha County Bar Association and was on the board of directors of that organization for several years, and its past president. He was a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association and served on its board of governors from 1984 to 1988.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 W. Bluemound Road, Waukesha. A rosary vigil will be held at 6 p.m., and the evening will conclude with full military honors. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m.
