Irma North, a longtime resident of Lake Country on Okauchee Lake and in Oconomowoc died April 3, 2008, at Heartland Health Care Center in Waukesha. Irma was born to Alina and Oscar Star, Sr. on March 8, 1911, in Milwaukee
She was preceded in death by her husband, Asser North, whom she married in 1929, three years after Asser arrived in the United States from Turku, Finland. Asser died May 15, 1975. Irma was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Dorothy, Elsie, William, John and Oscar Star, Jr. William was killed in World War II in the heroic Battle of the Bulge.
She is survived by Jussi and Collette Lehti of Granite Falls, Minn., and seven nephews and families in southeastern Wisconsin. She will be missed by the families of her good friends Theresa Reimer, and Dick (nephew) and Jan Star. Irma is also survived by three generations of friends and those she met during her charitable services after her retirement.
She served as a volunteer for a number of years at Shorehaven in Oconomowoc. Because of her active life, many of the needy she served were younger than Irma.
Burial will be in Glenview Memorial Gardens, Ixonia, next to her husband Asser.
Irma lived by the words she chose at the burial of her husband: "I shall pass through this world but once. If there be any kindness I can show or any good that I can do, let me do it now, for I shall not pass this way again." Irma always gave more than she received.
