Violet ‘Shorty’ Hoffman

July 13, 1915 - April 8, 2008

Violet "Shorty" Hoffman of Mukwonago passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at LindenGrove in Mukwonago. She was 92.

Violet was born in Pittsburgh on July 13, 1915, the daughter of Harry and Clara Bell (nee Eckel) Hoffman.

Violet served in the Women’s Army Corps in the regular Army from 1948 until 1957, when she was honorably discharged with a rank of staff sergeant first class. She was a reserve member from 1957 until 1975, when she retired with an honorable discharge. She served at Fort Lee, Va.; Heidelberg, Germany; Fort McClellan, Ala.; Fort Sheridan, Ill.; and in Milwaukee. She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 375 in Mukwonago.

Her guardian, Ethel Marshall of Waukesha, and other friends survive her.

She was preceded in death by her good friend, Myrna Boomer of Mukwonago, as well as her parents and siblings.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Mukwonago. Please meet at the cemetery.
