Robert Herman ‘Adorable Bob’ Bentzien

Nov. 12, 1916 - April 10, 2008

Robert Herman "Adorable Bob" Bentzien, 91, passed peacefully at home in North Lake on the afternoon of Thursday, April 10, 2008. Bob was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Milwaukee. He was the third son born to Paul John and Adela H. M. (nee Thode). His older brothers and their wives, Richard Paul and Linnea Marjorie Bentzien and Leonard Thode and Jessie Emma Bentzien, as well as his nephew, Tom Albert Bentzien, preceded him on the passage to everlasting life.

Bob loved his home in North Lake and liked to entertain family and friends at Bentzien’s Beach with his loving wife, Shirley Edna (nee Rudolph). "Moo and Doo" celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary April 3, 2008.

Celebrating the Fourth of July was particularly special to Bob the patriot. His World War II tales with the Army 17th Airborne (as a paratrooper) and "McMullen’s Raiders" were near and dear to him and captured the attention of his listeners. He enjoyed water-skiing and sheepshead and taught both to his children, Vicki Lydia Bentzien and Don "Barney" Bentzien of Stone Bank. Vicki and her husband, Wayne Yoshioka, live in Honolulu. Bob was a loving and attentive father. He "drilled into our noggins" life lessons and down-to-earth wisdoms, such as "govern yourself accordingly."

Bob’s nieces and nephews include Jill Elin Benke (nee Bentzien) of Manchester, Mass., Rick John Bentzien of Appleton, Dean Lee and Laureen Bentzien of Brookfield and Sally Louise (nee Bentzien) and Loren Danke of Wales. Bob is also survived by his grandniece, Sara Jessie Danke; grandnephews, Brett Leonard Danke, Kyle John Bentzien, Ryan Lee Bentzien and Samuel Engman Benke; and great-great-nephew, Isak James Danke.

Bob retired from Unit Products and Chenequa Country Club. His skills and knowledge of tools made him a jack-of-all-trades and delighted all involved.

Bob will be dearly missed, his memory honored, and always in our hearts and thoughts. Memorials in the name of Robert Bentzien to the Pewaukee American Legion Post No. 71, 118 Main St., Pewaukee, WI 53072; American Legion Post 449th, 3245 N. 124th St., Brookfield, WI 53005; Paralyzed Veterans of America, Donation Processing Center, P.O.
