Kenneth F. Hekkers

Kenneth F. Hekkers of Waukesha was called to his heavenly home Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at age 87. He was born Nov. 2, 1920, to Frank and Laura (nee Hamburg) Hekkers.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Lillian "Ginnie" Hekkers; his stepsons, Jay (Jane) Borroughs of Verona and Stephen (Deb) Borroughs of Shawano; sisters-in-law, Marvel Hekkers of Burbank, Calif., Gladys Kuchenreuter of Waukesha and Irene Smith of Waukesha; a special friend, Diana Baldry of Hartland; grandchildren, Holly, Heather, Scott, Kate, Whitney, Malory, Lindsey, Robert, Zackary, Kassidy, Calissa, Marc, Michael, Malia and Shifra; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Savannah, Cora, Haddon, Drake, Jasmine, Linden, Camilla, Laurel, Angelica, Brailin, Morgan, Cheyanne and Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores (nee Shadowski); son, Michael; brothers, Jerry and George; and a sister, Sylvia Hadler.
Ken was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations for four years as a regimental dispatcher and later in graveyard registration. He was wounded twice during the Battle of the Bulge. Ken received many medals and awards, including the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry, Victory Medal, American Theatre ribbon, European/African Middle Eastern theatre ribbon with four bronze battle stars, two overseas service bars, a good conduct medal and the Belgian Fourregere. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 721, the American Legion and the D.A.V.
Ken operated two service stations in the Milwaukee area prior to moving to California in 1948, where he worked in the legitimate theatre industry as an electrician and stagehand. He was a payroll master in Local 33 in Burbank. Ken moved back to Wisconsin in 1992 and resided in Waukesha until the time of his death.
He was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Waukesha. He will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
