Charles David Quirt III
Oct. 16, 1916 - April 16, 2008
Charles David Quirt III transcended peacefully to his heavenly home Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Charles was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Little River, Oconto, the son of Charles II and Fern (nee McDowell) Quirt.
He married Emmy (nee Kadlec) Quirt on July 10, 1941.
Charles was the third generation on the Century Family Farm, caring for his aging parents. He was active in farm and voluntary community services, serving 19 years on the Local and Oconto combined school board, the Michigan District Badger, Grange and Farm Bureau Legislative committees and as a member of the Oconto Memorial Hospital committee.
Charles was chairman of the town of Little River, a state director of Wisconsin Towns Association, chairman of the Oconto County Board of Supervisors, a member of the State Board of Supervisors and served on the Oconto City, County Airport Commission.
As a young man, he served as Oconto County undersheriff and was later appointed by Chief Justice Bruce Beilfus to the Administrative Courts Committee and also served on former Wisconsin Gov. Lee Dreyfus’ Citizens Advisory Board. Upon retirement, he and Emmy traveled throughout the United States, northeastern Canada and Europe, enjoying cruises and wintering in Florida. They finally settled in Pewaukee. They were formerly members of the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Oconto and presently members of Queen of Apostles Catholic Church in City of Pewaukee.
Charles was a loving and supportive son, husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Emmy; his children, Marjorie (Douglas) King of Mount Horeb, Peggy (James) Dosen of Fort Mill, S.C., Charles Quirt (Judith Gerszak) of Madison, Thomas Quirt (Carol Van Hefty) of Sheboygan and Dan Quirt (Patricia Orth-Rhyner) of Waukesha; and his grandchildren, (Marjorie’s children) Laura and Ginny King, (Peggy’s children) Stephanie and Zachary Dosen, (Charles’ children) Charles Matthew and Benjamin Quirt, (Thomas’ children) Dana, Justin and Nathan Quirt and (Dan’s children) Jon Rhyner and Kimberly Quirt. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, including his special loving nieces and nephews, Marlene and Tony Jasen and sons, Pat and Richard Feuling and sons, Darlene Thompson and Gary Quigley.
His love, guidance, compassion and humor will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Sunday, April 20, at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, N35-W23360 Capitol Drive, City of Pewaukee.
