Leonard Stiede of Waukesha went to join his wife of 75 years, Marie, on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at age 98, at Care-Age in Brookfield. He was born in the town of Vernon on Jan. 2, 1910, to the late William A. and Gertrude L. (nee Hill) Stiede.
Leonard worked at Waukesha Motors, Aqua-Chem and Fox Head Brewery, retiring 33 years ago. He enjoyed traveling, watching the Packers, boxing and singing in the Barber Shop Chorus.
On Sept. 14, 1929, Leonard married the former Marie Washkowitz at Marieís parentsí home, which is now located on Jefferson Avenue and Moreland Boulevard. In 1935, Leonard and Marie joined St. Lukeís Lutheran Church, where he was a faithful member of the choir for 50 years, senior citizens and was a current member of the church.
Leonard is survived by his daughters, Joanne Hildebran of Waukesha and Carol (Robert) Sorenson of Waukesha; daughter-in-law, Patricia Stiede of Oak Park, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Stiede; siblings, Ruby Conrad, Agnes McCutchin, Myrtle Schaefer, Elbert Stiede and Gertrude Isberg; great-granddaughter, Kelly Martin; and son-in-law, Joseph Hildebran.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, April 28, at St. Lukeís Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha, with the Rev. Gary Liedtke officiating. Private entombment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Lukeís Lutheran Church.
