William L. ‘Bill’ Magers

William L. "Bill" Magers, 82, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008. Bill was born in Waukesha on April 26, 1926, to William and Sylvia (nee Green) Magers.

He was fond of telling the story about how in his very early childhood, Bill and his sister, Nota Jean, were featured as the "1928 Golden Guernsey Babies" with their pictures on Golden Guernsey milk bottles. He graduated from Waukesha High School and attended Purdue University before he entered the U.S. Marine Corps where he served during World War II in the Philippines, the South Pacific Theatre and in China. After his discharge from the Marines, Bill returned to Waukesha to attend Carroll College. He was a sports enthusiast all his life and was an accomplished swimmer and golfer. Bill was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Waukesha and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 8 in Waukesha.

Bill is survived by his wife of 25 years, Maryann Magers; his son, David (Melissa) Larson of Glendale, Ariz.; daughter, Kathleen Dubois of Elkhorn; a grandson, Jared Larson; a stepsister, Kay Owens of Waukesha; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nota Jean Majors.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Aug. 8, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a reception and luncheon held in the fellowship hall of the church.
