William Bill Ernest Pfeiffer

April 12, 1923 - July 31, 2008

William "Bill" Pfeiffer, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital from complications of pneumonia. He was born April 12, 1923, in Delafield. His family moved to Hartland, and he became a lifelong resident, serving the community as a member of the Hartland Village Board, volunteer fireman and coach for Land o Puddles baseball.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 on the USS Caliente. He was also a member of Hartland American Legion Flanagan Dorn Post 294 for more than 50 years.

He loved sports and played Land o Lakes baseball for 15 years. In 1978, he was inducted into the Land o Lakes Hall of Fame. Later, he turned his love of sports to golf, winning several club championships at Lake Beulah Country Club.

He worked as a mason for 42 years with his brother, Lyle, and then worked part time for the village of Hartland.

He was the beloved husband of the late Ione (Sedgwick) for 60 years; the loving father of Cindy (Randy) Brown of Merton, Scott (Delores) Pfeiffer of Seattle and Linda (John Marks) Pfeiffer of North Freedom Township; the dear grandpa of Jenny, Katie, Ben, Michaela and Aspen; and the fond brother of Lyle, Robert, Bruce, Frederick, Franklin, Naomi (Sid) Goodchild, Phyllis (Ed) Brown, Lorraine (Carl) Schwager, Virginia (Edgar) Schmidt, Judy (Francis) Klink and Patti (Gordon) Johnson. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Della (Stern) Pfeiffer.

He will be sadly missed by Don McNeil and his other golf companions, and his longtime neighbor, Gayle Lierk.

He was an energetic, robust man with a kind heart who will live on in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. memorial service Sunday, Aug. 10, at Evert-Luko Funeral Home, 170 Warren Ave., Hartland.
