Edith ‘Betty’ Elizabeth Tews

Jan. 7, 1915 - Aug. 22, 2008

Our dear and precious mother, Edith "Betty" Elizabeth Tews, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, after a brief stay at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She entered her eternal life with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, after an earthly life of 93 years. Mother was born in Waukesha to George and Edith (nee Brown) Burmeister.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Warren Benjamin Tews; her parents; her sisters, Ruth Woolsey and Georgiana Southard; and her brother, Richard Burmeister.

She is survived by her five children, David Tews of Waukesha, Janet (Andre) LeTourneau of Menomonee Falls, Paul (Kathleen) Tews of East Troy, Barbara (Bradley) Kragenbrink of Pewaukee and Carol (Michael) Fromstein of Racine. She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren, Laurie James, Sharie (Larry) Gilmore, Jeffrey (Kathleen) James, Michael (Kristin) James, Matthew (Amber) Kragenbrink, Heather Krangenbrink, Janelle (Joshua) Theigs, Elicia (Gregory) Poplawski, Elizabeth Fromstein, Nathaniel Fromstein, Rebecca Fromstein, Jacob Fromstein and Joseph Fromstein, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mother graduated with a teaching degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and was a dedicated homemaker her adult life. She enjoyed crafts, baking and caring wonderfully for her family. She volunteered at her church and served in various capacities as she was needed. She was always ready to help anyone in need and was especially self-sacrificing for her children as well as caring for her own parents as they aged. She was always freely giving of herself. The gracious and merciful Lord did not make any mother who was more loving and caring than our own dear mother. God will bless and keep her safely forever.

Mother’s family would like to thank the Visiting Nurse Association of Wisconsin for 16 years of dedicated care. Special thanks are due to Sharon Mueller and Lachelle Rouhoff.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any gift to help toward Mother’s final expenses.

A small interment service will be held at the grave site at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Prairie Home Cemetery. Following the grave site service, a memorial service will be held at the cemetery chapel at 11 a.m. The Rev. James Schumacher of the Apostolic Faith Church in Racine will preside.

The family is being assisted by the Church and Chapel Funeral Home on the Bluemound Road.
