Richard N. Stover, 77, of Palmyra, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Waukesha, the son of the late William and Gladys (nee Jolliffe) Stover.
Richard was retired after being the owner/operator of Stover Oil in Palmyra. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a charter member of the Palmyra Lions Club where he was past president and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award and a past member of the American Legion of Palmyra. He also volunteered for 26 years for the Palmyra Fire Department. Throughout his life, he participated in Land o’ Lakes baseball, softball, bowling and golf.
Richard will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Marilyn (nee Gaugert), whom he married April 1, 1950, in Norfolk, Va.; his four children, Jayne (David) Schroeder of Sun Prairie, Thomas Stover of Palmyra, Janice (Martin) Moyer of Waterford and Jean (Richard) Kokalares of Fort Atkinson; three grandchildren, Eric and Allison Moyer and Richard Kokalares; and his sisters, Karol (Gerald) Keppen of Palmyra and Deborah Stover of Janesville. Richard is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 313 W. Main St., Palmyra. Visitation continues from 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service Friday, Aug. 29, at the church, with the Rev. Steven Blyth officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery with full military honors.
