Rex B. Ruther

Rex B. Ruther of Naples, Fla., passed away suddenly Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008. He was born in Clarence, Iowa, on March 14, 1931, and was raised in Des Moines.

Rex was an outstanding athlete in three sports, earning a baseball scholarship to the University of Iowa. He was an extremely well-liked collegian, president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, Interfraternity Council president and a rabid Hawkeye fan. After graduation, he served as provost marshall as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife, Marilyn, returned to Iowa City to obtain his law degree. They then lived in Waukesha and Roswell, Ga.

Recently, Rex and his wife moved permanently to Naples and became members of the North Naples Methodist Church. He was known for his patriotic spirit and generosity to civic associations. He will be sorely missed by many friends.

Rex leaves his beloved wife of 55 years, Marilyn; children, Kristine Ruther, Rexanne Prom and Peter Ruther; grandchildren, Benjamin Ruther, Ray Kyle and Brittany Kyle; and great-grandchildren, Layla and Milo Kanazeh.
