Howard R. Zillmer

Howard R. Zillmer, 86, formerly of Waukesha, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, in Port Charlotte, Fla. He was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Pewaukee, the son of Harry and Clara (Schneider) Zillmer.

Howard will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Inez; daughters, Virginia (Robert) Jovanovich of Pewaukee and Alice (Norman) Schultz of Waukesha; son, Charles Zillmer of Pewaukee; stepdaughters, Judy (Erwin) Bertram and Janet (Charles) Betker, both of Waukesha; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Also surviving are half-brothers, Ernest (Cathy) Zillmer, Harry (Sandie) Zillmer and Jack (Kelly) Zillmer; half-sisters, Harriet "Toots" Yaresh, Ellen (Jim) Laird and Susan (Al) Corcoran; sister-in-law, Lucille Zillmer; and other relatives and friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Augusta Zillmer; and brother, George Zillmer.

He served in the 106th Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, which fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked as an electrician for Salter and Magaw Electric before opening his own business, Zillmer Electric. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the Elks Club and the Evangelical & Reformed United Church of Christ. He was past president of the Optimist Club and past commander of the Waukesha Cruise Fleet. Upon retiring, he moved to Florida in 1984, where he was a member of First United Methodist Church and The Isles Yacht Club in Punta Gorda. Howard was an avid boater and fisherman.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 am. until the 1 p.m. memorial service Saturday, Dec. 6, at Redeemer United Church of Christ, W220-N4915 Town Line Road, Sussex. The Rev. Robert Ullman and Howard Kusler will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Redeemer United Church of Christ would be appreciated.
