Jane A. Thompson

Jane A. (Ruland) Thompson, 73, of the town of Rome, Adams County, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Strawberry Lane Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Wisconsin Rapids. She was born July 10, 1935 in Strum, to Paul and Rosalie (Senn) Ruland.

Jane married Lowell S. Thompson on June 27, 1958, in Milwaukee. They lived in Waukesha for almost 25 years. After staying home to raise her family, Jane worked at the Waukesha Public Library for several years before she and Lowell moved to the town of Rome. She worked at Lake Camelot for more than 10 years until her recent illness.

Jane was an avid "crafter" who enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was a kind person who liked doing things for others and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her children and her two grandsons.

Jane is survived by her children, Jill (John) Remy of Belleville and Mark Thompson of the town of Rome; grandsons, Andrew and Benjamin; brother, Robert (Carolyn) Ruland of Jerseyville, Ill.; sister, Georgine Hebert of Utica, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Edwin (Barbara) Thompson of Milwaukee, Gilman Thompson of New Berlin and Bill Culbert of Eau Claire; and sisters-in-law, Ruby Liedtke of Cedarburg, Lucille Klipp of Madison and Arlene Ruland of Strum.

Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lowell; son, Jeffrey; parents; sister, Marion Culbert; and brother, Marvin Ruland.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Friday, Dec. 12, at Ritchay Funeral Home, 1950 12th St. South, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. Duane Schultz will officiate.

The family wished to thank the doctors and especially the nurses and staff at Strawberry Lane for the care and compassion offered to Jane during her last months.
