Herbert C. ‘Herb’ Tannis
Herbert C. "Herb" Tannis of Waukesha died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 82.
Herbert was a devoted and active member at St. Anthony On the Lake Catholic Church. His trade and hobby was carpentry and he was employed by Link Associates for more than 25 years. Herb proudly served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was in the Philippines with the repair unit known as "Captain Witches and his forty thieves." He married June (nee Zollner) on Sept. 16, 1950, and moved into the home he and his brothers built in May of 1953 and resided there until present. His best friends in life were his brothers but his greatest love was his wife, June and their family.
Herbert will be deeply missed by his children, Mary Tannis of Waukesha, Michael (Judy) Tannis of Pewaukee, Paul (Sue) Tannis of Adams, Terri (Alan) Wagner of Waukesha and William (Janet) Tannis of Okauchee. He is further survived by his five grandchildren, Tyler, Christopher, Jennifer, Joseph and Jacob; two great grandchildren, Jason and Katie; and many relatives and friends.
Herbert was preceded by his wife, June; his parents, Eugene and Cecelia; and his brothers, Francis, John, Wendlin, Herman, Joseph and Anthony.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the 4 p.m. vigil service Sunday, Dec. 21, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Visitation continues from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass on Monday, Dec. 22, at St. Anthony On the Lake Catholic Church, W280-N2101 Prospect Ave., town of Delafield, WI 53072. The Rev. Robert Drutowski and the Rev. Joseph Hornacek will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Pewaukee.
