Charles Lester Johnson of Waukesha died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, surrounded by his family at AngelsGrace at age 86. He was fondly referred to as "Sparky" by his family.

Charlie was born March 7, 1922, in Washington Island, the son of Charles and Emma Johnson. He was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ. Charlie enjoyed his commercial fishing days in Washington Island before serving in the military. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. Charlie was then employed by Waukesha Engine for more than 30 years and enjoyed regular visits with his family to Door County.

Charlie will be deeply missed by his daughters, Sandra Wills of Madison and JoEllen (Jeffrey) Brisk of Waukesha; his grandchildren, Wendy (Paul) Iantosca and Cindy (Jon) Enama; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer, Amanda and Peyton. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Johnson, in 1996.

The visitation for Charlie will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The Rev. James Gorman will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park, New Berlin.
