Alvin Stanley ĎAlí Kawecki

Alvin Stanley "Al" Kawecki passed away peacefully Dec. 19, 2008, in hospice care in the presence of family.

He is the beloved husband of Harriet Kawecki, whom he was married to for 59 years, and father of Susan (Dutch) Beukenkamp, Dave (Linda) Kawecki, Christina (Jon) Boshard and Jean (Ken) Maio. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Matt, Kim, Nicole, Julian, Dylan and Sam.

Born Nov. 26, 1922, in New York City, Al lived a full life of 86 years. He was the youngest of nine children and is survived by his sisters, Peg Cyr, Laura Fitzgerald and Lucy Hamilton; his brother, Leo Kawecki; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Al was a World War II veteran who served on the USS LSM 220 in the Pacific. He was a graduate of Columbia University with a degree in engineering. Following in his fatherís footsteps, he owned his own business building custom homes. In 1962, he built his first family home in Brightwaters, N.Y. Al was a president of the Bay Shore Lions Club, building inspector for the village of Brightwaters and an elder in his church.

His passions were boating, fishing, reading, building, gardening, music and cards, of which poker was his favorite. A lifelong animal lover, especially of cats and dogs, he always had one as part of the family. In 1980, he and Harriet moved to the retirement home he built in Water Mill, N.Y. Al, a good guy always, will stay in our hearts forever.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff and volunteers at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc for their wonderful and caring support of Al.

A private memorial service will be held.
