Donald W. Schmidt

Donald W. Schmidt of Waukesha passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at his residence. He was 87 years old. Don was born in Richmond, Ind., on Dec. 28, 1920, the son of Lewis and Ollie (nee Eikenberry) Schmidt.

After graduating from Dickson High School in Eaton, Ohio, Don attended Ohio State University. He was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps on June 26, 1945. He served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged June 20, 1946.

After moving to the Waukesha area, Don raised and showed Aberdeen Angus cattle. He then became a heavy equipment operator in road construction.

Survivors include his son, Michael (Teresa) Schmidt of Eaton; a brother, Franklin Schmidt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Betty (Bill) Blessing of New York, N.Y., and Geraldine Shiverdecker of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; and two daughters, Nancy Lee Schmidt and Carol Wigger.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Schmidt & Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St. (Highway ES), Mukwonago. The Rev. Mark Schowalter will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Mukwonago. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Rolland Nelson/Crossroads Hospice, 1020 James Drive, Suite E, Hartland, WI 53029 would be appreciated.
