Olive C. (nee Koch) Rowe

Olive C. (nee Koch) Rowe, 97, of Madison, formerly of Waukesha, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Meriter Hospital in Madison.

Olive was born in Lane, S.D., the fourth of five children to Ralph and Eva Crerar. She graduated from Palmyra High School in 1928. She attended Northland College and graduated from Whitewater State College with honors in 1933 with a bachelorís degree in education. Years later she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, receiving a masterís degree in library science. Olive was united in marriage to George R. Koch in 1935, raising their family in Waukesha and Big Bend until his death in 1959.

Olive was an elementary school librarian in the Elmbrook School District in Brookfield, retiring in 1976. In 1977, she was married to Kenneth W. Rowe of Milwaukee. They spent winters in Arizona, becoming full-time residents in 1983 at Green Valley. They returned to Wisconsin in 1995, living at Oak Hill Village in Waukesha. Following Kenís death in 1996, she moved to Oakwood Village West, Madison, in 2003 to be near family. Olive was a 50-year member of the Waukesha First United Methodist Church, a member of the Waukesha Eastern Star for more than 65 years, and active in library

organizations and the Business & Professional Women of Brookfield. Her interests included a love of music, playing the organ, photography, reading and writing prose and poetry, travel, raising plants and flowers, and maintaining contact with relatives and friends through extensive correspondence.

Olive was preceded in death by her two husbands; two brothers, Lester and Everett Crerar; and two sisters, Alice Sandstrom and Winifred Klinger. In addition to her husbands, Olive also was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Koch.

She is survived by children, Gary M. Koch of Huntley, Ill., and Ted W. Koch (Jeanette) of Madison; granddaughter, Lisa (Michael) Schuster of Madison; grandson, Ryan Koch and fiancee Kristin McDaniel of Fitchburg; and by special nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Olive will be remembered as a wonderful mother, a steadfast friend and a woman of many talents.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Oakwood Village West Resurrection Chapel, 6165 Mineral Point Road, Madison, with the Rev. Harold Zimmick, Asbury United Methodist Church, Madison, presiding. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the Oakwood West Resurrection Chapel.
